AI Generated Resume Critique
It's Claude vs ChatGPT, it's Bolt, and it's Enhancv, oh my!

Intro
I asked Claude, ChatGPT, Bolt, and Enhancv to design me a resume based on a basic Word template, and the results are quite surprising! Some are good, some are terrible. Some were documents, others were websites.
Let me show you.
The showdown between these two resulted in the clearest winner, with Claude destroying ChatGPT in terms of level of effort, with one caveat. Keep reading.
The prompt for these two was very simple, as, to be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much from either of them. “Design a visually appealing resume for a Senior UX Designer based on the information in the attached PDF.”

What happened next was definitely surprising.
I didn’t specify a specific format, and it was interesting to see that while ChatGPT went with a generic static format, Claude was actually creating an “Interactive artifact.”
Here’s what ChatGPT generated

and here’s what Claude generated

I hadn’t even thought that I would need to specify a specific format, as I assumed they would spit out a generic one-pager with a boring layout and bad colors. I’m not a pro at prompting, but wanted to keep this intentionally simple.
The winner in my book? Claude. Outside of the fact that when I asked it to convert the resume into a PDF, it said that it couldn’t and shared 5 ways that I could figure it out myself 🤷

⚡️ Bolt
Knowing that Bolt is used to generate websites, I wanted to give it more of a specific prompt to help guide the visual styling of the resume I assumed it would generate.
The prompt was “Create a landing page based on the information in the attached pdf. This resume is for a UX designer, so make it look aesthetically pleasing while maintaining legibility. Utilize modern typographic and UI elements to ensure a high quality of craft.”
The goal for me was to make it look like a modern-day website. Did it?

No, not really. While it was really cool to generate a landing page with anchor links to different sections, it was super basic. For anyone not in design that is comfortable with prompting, I think this is a great option if you’re in the market for an interactive resume!
Here’s my result:

I’ve used Bolt, Lovable, and Magic Patterns to generate early concepts for the Un-Employer landing page, but found I needed to do more work to edit than it would be for me to create it myself.
While it’s inherently different than the other three tools, I found Enhancv to be the best option for non-designers. If you’re looking to spice up your resume a bit and stand out from your fellow job seekers, I’d recommend it.
You don’t have to do any prompting. You simply upload your resume and choose from their library of templates, and boom, there’s your new resume!

I will say there are several formatting and spelling issues — it even separated words. So, if you have the time to triple-check the formatting and make sure it’s what you want, this (or something similar), is your tool.

Pft, doesn’t even know what the Un-Employer is.
I have very little experience with similar tools like Teal, so I’d suggest checking them all out!
